Pipe #3. The third pipe tested was a 6" diameter, steel specimen. The specimen was constructed from 3 pieces of steel pipe butt welded together. All welds were full penetration. Flange units were added to the ends to allow mounting at the ends of the test box in a way that would support tension and bending in the pipe. The test was performed with a 3' cover of soil. The pipe specimen was mounted in the test boxes with the end couplings outside the boxes and shimmed to the ends of the boxes. The move-able test box was pushed four feet, forcing the pipe into bending and tension, as in the first three pipe tests.
